Jaafar Jackson is moving quickly to build on the success of his recent role as Michael Jackson in the big hit movie “Michael.” Right after playing his late uncle in that record-breaking film, he has already landed his next big Hollywood role.
Jackson has joined the cast of “Supermax,” an action movie from Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax, where he will act with Academy Award winner Will Smith.
AnnaSophia Robb is also in the cast, and David Gordon Green is directing the film, which was written by David Weil and David J.Rosen.
Although details about Jackson’s character are not yet revealed, sources say his part is very important to the film’s main mystery.
“Supermax” follows two FBI agents, played by Smith and Robb, who are trying to solve a strange murder inside one of the world’s most secure prisons.
The movie is produced by Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman from The Picture Company, along with Smith and Adam Fishbach from Westbrook Studios.
The executive producers include David Weil, David J.Rosen, Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, Thom Zadra, Spencer Ela, James Lassiter, Miguel Melendez, and Natalie Laine Williams.
Amazon MGM Studios is wrapping up a worldwide distribution deal with Miramax, thanks to help from CAA Media Finance.
The movie will be available on Prime Video in over 240 countries and areas once production starts.
Jackson’s casting comes after a lot of praise for his outstanding performance as Michael Jackson in “Michael.” His role showed off his acting skills and how well he can copy Michael’s famous stage moves like the Moonwalk, the Robot, the Spin, and the Toe Stand.
Critics liked how Jackson portrayed Michael Jackson’s quiet personality, emotions, and strong determination.
His performance has made him one of Hollywood’s top young actors.
With “Michael” becoming the highest-grossing music biopic ever and passing the $1 billion mark globally, Jackson’s career has taken a big jump.
“Supermax” is his first big project since that success and is set to star alongside one of the biggest names in the industry in a high-stakes action film.
